8 1/2 x 11. Xeroxed. Fading and pinhole at top from hanging. Detroit: 1985.
Flyer from an extremely early Mills session at an event in Detroit, many years before his high-profile appearances and residencies at Limelight, Tresor, Pompidou Centre and other international venues and institutions of import. Co-performer Tyrone Bradley ran a "dance music" record pool with more mainstream sounds like funk and disco, so at the event, Mills would have introduced the crowd to his newer, minimal approach: "What sounded like early hard techno...was actually a succession of disco record intros piled on top of one another, cut and scratched at such a rapid rate by Mills that the sound evolved." (From essay "The Roots of Techno: Detroit's Club Scene, 1973—1985"; Ashley Zlatopolsky writing for the Red Bull Music Academy Daily, 2014.)
